Speech and Language Therapy:

Speaking refers to how we say sounds and words. Most of the time we call this “Speech”. Children with speech difficulties may not be able to say their sounds clearly. For instance, saying “witow” for “little”. Some children in this category may have fluency difficulties more commonly known as a stutter or stammer. For instance, they repeat words or sounds in a sentence more than they should. “I w-w-w-ant a d-d-drink.” Sometimes children can pronounce all their words clearly and speak fluently, but have difficulties expressing their thoughts clearly in spoken language. This is called “expressive language difficulties”.  At Speech Therapy Miami we always make a careful assessment of the apparent presenting issue and any underlying root causes in order to structure the most efficient, cost-effective and successful program possible.

Pragmatic Skills (Social Language) Therapy:

There are social rules that society expects us to follow when we talk to people. We use language for different reasons, changing our language for the listener or situation, and we follow rules for conversations and storytelling. For example, not interrupting when someone else is telling a story, and looking at the person who is talking to you. If your child struggles with understanding social rules when talking or playing, they may feel isolated or have no friends. It may also be helpful to seek professional advice to ascertain why the child is experiencing these social difficulties.

Literacy Therapy:

Literacy refers to reading and writing. One of the biggest foundations of literacy skills is in being good at skills such as identifying rhyme, sounds in words, blending sounds to form words. If your child has trouble with these skills, he or she is very likely to have trouble with auditory processing.

Hearing Screenings:

A simple Hearing Screening help us rule out underlying disorders that may impact language comprehension/expression.
